Privacy and retention
Open Privacy & data to see how long screenshots are kept, blur them by default, or delete everything past the retention window right now.
Who this is for
Managers and owners can view this page. Only an owner can actually change the retention window, flip the blur default, or purge. A manager sees the same settings with the controls disabled.
What you'll see
The page is headed Privacy & data, in two sections:
Screenshot retention: a dropdown labelled Automatically delete screenshots after, with options Keep forever, 30 days, 60 days, 90 days, 180 days, or 1 year. Beside it, a Purge now button labelled Purge older screenshots now, described as immediately deleting every screenshot already past the retention window, and noted as something that can't be undone.
Blur on capture: a single toggle, Blur new screenshots by default, described as marking new captures as blurred so the review gallery reveals them only on demand; screenshots already captured are unaffected.
If you can view the page but can't change it, a notice reads "Only an owner can change these." *"You can review them here, but the controls are read-only."*
What happens next
Changing the retention window doesn't purge anything by itself. A nightly job enforces whatever window you set, deleting screenshots older than that many days on its own schedule. Turning on blur-by-default only affects screenshots captured from that point forward; nothing already stored changes. Selecting Purge now brings up a confirmation naming exactly what will be deleted before anything happens.
If it doesn't work
- If you can't view this page at all, you'll see "Privacy settings are available to managers and owners." *"These controls decide how long captures are kept and whether they're blurred, so they're limited to managers and owners."*
- If you try to change a setting or purge without owner access, you'll see "Only an owner can change privacy settings" or "Only an owner can purge screenshots," and the control reverts to the server's current value.
- If you purge and there's nothing past the window, you'll see "Nothing to purge: no screenshots are past the window" rather than an error.
- If the page fails to load for another reason, you'll see "Couldn't load privacy settings."
