No activity is showing

An empty activity timeline is usually one of a few plain causes (the wrong day, a missing Mac permission, or an agent that isn't actually tracking yet), and each has a direct fix.

Who this is for

Anyone looking at a person's day: an owner or manager reviewing a teammate, or a member looking at their own day. WorkMonitor always lets you open your own day, even without any special permission.

Steps

  1. Check the date at the top of the page. A day with genuinely nothing recorded shows "No activity recorded for this day." with the hint "Pick another date, or check back once the agent reports in." Step back to a day you know had activity to confirm the page itself is working.
  2. On the Mac being tracked, confirm WorkMonitor is actually running and not paused. Hover its menu-bar icon and check the tooltip reads Tracking active, not Paused or Not enrolled. A paused or never-connected agent has nothing to report.
  3. Confirm both macOS permissions are granted: Screen Recording and Accessibility, in System Settings → Privacy & Security. Accessibility is what lets the agent count keyboard and mouse input. Without it, the agent keeps running, but the counts behind the activity level stay at zero, so the day can look flat or empty even though the agent is connected. This is the single most common reason an installed agent shows little or nothing.
  4. If you're reviewing someone else's day and see "Couldn't load this day" with "Your session may have expired. Try signing in again.", that same message also covers not having permission to view that particular person. Try signing in again first, and if the page still won't load, ask an owner whether you have access to that person's records.
  5. Give it a little time. Today's activity streams in close to real time, but a device that just reconnected, or one that was briefly offline, needs a moment to catch up.

What happens next

Once activity exists for the day, the timeline, the headline figures, and the top-apps list all populate from the same data. There's nothing separate to turn on. Top apps shows "No app activity recorded" specifically when there's activity for the day but nothing app-attributed yet.

If it doesn't work

  • If the page shows "Couldn't load this day" with a different message underneath, that message is the server's own explanation. Read it as the actual cause rather than a generic failure.
  • Active App & Window and Activity Level are two different signals your organization can turn off for everyone in Controls. If either is off there, that piece of the day will never show up for anyone, on any device, until it's switched back on.
  • If everything above checks out and the day is still empty, ask an admin to confirm the agent is enrolled and the organization's capture settings are what you expect.
